asking somebody's age
If you're talking about age, ‘大’and ‘小’means 'old' and 'yong' respectively. “她多大了?”means “How old is she?” This is a normal pattern to ask someone's age.
But if you ask a child's age, who is less than ten years old, you could simply say “你几岁了?” If you ask an old person's age, the question should normally be put this way “您多大年纪了?”
